چکیده
University of Vienna, Austria Conservative treatment of lymphoedema is based on decongestive lymphatic therapy (DLT) which consists of compression, manual lymphatic drainage (MLD), skin care and exercise. Some schools use the term complete decongestive physiotherapy (CDP) (Foeldi et al, 2003). The most important single component among these modalities is compression, for which several devices are available, e.g. bandages, compression hosiery, velcro band-wraps and pumps producing intermittent pressure waves.

Pressure monitoring of multilayer inelastic bandaging and the effect of padding in breast cancer-related lymphedema patients.
OBJECTIVE This study of pressure monitoring of multilayer inelastic bandaging and the effect of padding in breast cancer-related lymphedema patients aimed to measure the resting and working sub-bandage pressures in compression therapy for lymphedema patients and to determine whether applying additional padding has an additional effect in volume reduction of the limb. DESIGN Forty-eight patien...
متن کاملClinical audit of a lymphoedema bandaging system: a foam roll and cohesive short stretch bandages.
OBJECTIVE Late-stage lymphoedema is characterised by chronic swelling, shape distortion, inflammatory processes and tissue fibrosis. Our aim was to perform a clinical audit of a lymphoedema compression bandaging system (Rosidal Soft foam roll layer and figure-of-eight application of Actico cohesive inelastic bandages) specifically designed for patients with late stage lower limb lymphoedema. ...
متن کاملDelivery of compression therapy for venous leg ulcers.
IMPORTANCE Despite the documented effect of compression therapy in clinical studies and its widespread prescription, treatment of venous leg ulcers is often prolonged and recurrence rates high. Data on provided compression therapy are limited. OBJECTIVE To assess whether home care nurses achieve adequate subbandage pressure when treating patients with venous leg ulcers and the factors that pr...
متن کاملEffect of multilayer high-compression bandaging on ankle range of motion and oxygen cost of walking
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the effects of multilayer high-compression bandaging on ankle range of motion, oxygen consumption and subjective walking ability in healthy subjects. METHOD A volunteer sample of 22 healthy subjects (10 women and 12 men; aged 67 [63-83] years) were studied. The intervention included treadmill-walking at self-selected speed with and without multilayer high-compression ban...
متن کاملProtocol for a pilot randomised controlled clinical trial to compare the effectiveness of a graduated three layer straight tubular bandaging system when compared to a standard short stretch compression bandaging system in the management of people with venous ulceration: 3VSS2008
BACKGROUND The incidence of venous ulceration is rising with the increasing age of the general population. Venous ulceration represents the most prevalent form of difficult to heal wounds and these problematic wounds require a significant amount of health care resources for treatment. Based on current knowledge multi-layer high compression system is described as the gold standard for treating v...
